Project Goals:
- Strengthening the education of students and doctoral candidates through practice- and application-oriented exchange and the promotion of youth in science
- Promotion of interdisciplinarity, innovation, cutting-edge research and establishment of thematic working groups in specialist cooperation in research and teaching with partner universities
- Cooperation with Ukrainian partner university in Lviv has been expanded, consolidated and is internationally visible
- Students, (junior) academics and university lecturers have completed a stay at the partner university, acquiring specialist and methodological skills
- Professional exchange between the partner universities has been consolidated, established and expanded
Activities and Success Indicators:
- An annual exchange takes place for each specialist working group
- At least one research project and/or at least one course per specialist working group will be developed by the end of 2026: Special education LUH – LNU
- The collaboration is internationally visible
- Cooperation with the Ukrainian partner university LNU has been extended to another subject area by the end of 2026
- At least 1 person per year has taken part in an exchange and acquired additional qualifications, technical and methodological skills by the end of 2026
- At least 1 specialist group per partner university is established by the end of 2026 with visible results in research and/or teaching

Scientific exchange with German colleagues on the topic related to inclusive education
On February 14th, 2025 Professor Dr. Rolf Werning, the Institute of Special Education at Leibniz University Hannover delivered a guest lecture for students of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education of Ivan Franko National University Lviv titled “Inclusive Teaching – Principles and Perspectives.”
The lecture provided an in-depth exploration of the core principles underlying inclusive teaching, emphasizing the necessity of fostering an inclusive classroom environment that actively supports all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
The session concluded with a discussion on the future of inclusive education and the role of teachers, students, and communities in shaping an inclusive educational landscape.
During the winter semester of 2025-2026, a joint course entitled “Social Integration, Communication and Differentiated Instructions in an Inclusive Educational Environment” is being held. It was developed by Dr. Olga Fert for students of the Institute of Special Education at Leibniz University Hannover and students of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education at Ivan Franko National University Lviv in collaboration with LNU faculty members in a blended format, as a part of the DAAD (Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst) “Eastern Partnership 2024-2026” project.
01.12- 07.12.25 Ukrainian teachers and students from the Faculty of Pedagogical Education LNU visited Institute of Special Education Leibnitz University Hannover
Members of the Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to visit German schools under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rolf Werning and learn about the specifics of special and inclusive education
There was also an in-person workshop with Dr. Olha Stoliaryk and Olha Tarnopolska, teachers from Ivan Franko National Unuversity of Lviv for a German-Ukrainian group of students.
During the workshop, important topics were discussed, such as support for veterans and people who have survived military action, as well as university students with special educational needs in wartime conditions.
The students worked on joint presentations and discussed topics related to inclusive education
