Started a special series of talks exploring Ukrainian higher education in times of war within the Global Seminars on Comparative and International Education.

On January 24, at the Department of Education, University of Oxford, on UNESCO’s International Day of Education, with this year’s theme of “learning for lasting peace”, we started a special series of talks exploring Ukrainian higher education in times of war within the Global Seminars on Comparative and International Education.

I thank Dr Maia Chankseliani, Associate Professor at the University of Oxford, convenor of the Global Public Seminars on Comparative and International Education, and academic mentor of my research project at the University of Oxford, for supporting the idea of the series of talks on Ukrainian higher education and for our cooperation, which ultimately made possible the organization of this talk series.

This talk series explores how Ukrainian universities demonstrating the incredible resilience, continue fulfilling their missions in the current dramatic circumstances and extremely difficult challenges of russia’s ongoing military invasion of Ukraine. Speakers representing various Ukrainian universities share their research results and personal experience in solving the problems that Ukrainian universities are facing. We also show the possibility of useful practical lessons that can be used by other countries facing existential threats.

The series began with my lecture titled “Internationalisation as one of the key components of Ukrainian university activities in times of russia’s military invasion”, which took place on January 24 and was devoted to the research on higher education in Ukraine, the main responses of Ukrainian universities to dramatic circumstances and extremely complex challenges caused by russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, with a special emphasis on the internationalization as an integral part of Ukrainian university activities in time of war.

Tomorrow, January 31, 17:00 – 18:00 (Ukrainian time) Professor Roman Gladyshevskii, Dr. Sc., Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Vice-Rector for Research, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukraine will have a lecture titled “Adapting the University (of Lviv) in time of war”.

This talk series continues until February 14.
